Hormone Replacement Q&A

What is hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy uses hormones to restore your body to balance. At Austin Wellness Solutions, one of the many therapies Emily prescribes is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy using the BioTe® Method.

BioTe® hormone pellets are bioidentical, meaning chemically, they look exactly like the hormones produced by your body.

During the virtually painless treatment, Emily inserts individually dosed, compounded BioTe® pellet(s) under the skin in the fat layer on the upper part of the buttock or flank. Once placed, the pellet time releases hormones into your bloodstream, relieving uncomfortable symptoms caused by hormonal imbalance from peri-menopause or menopause (for women) or low testosterone (for men), without the significant ups and downs that can be experienced with other hormone therapies likes creams, injections, patches and pills.*

Who is a candidate for hormone replacement therapy?

Request a hormone replacement therapy consultation at Austin Wellness Solutions if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Fatigue
  • Unexplained weight gain or weight loss
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Hair loss
  • Dry, itchy skin
  • Mood swings
  • Irritability

Many people with hormonal imbalances also experience sexual side effects, like low libido, pain during intercourse, or erectile dysfunction (ED).*

What does hormone replacement therapy involve?

Before recommending hormone replacement therapy, Emily completes a physical exam and reviews your medical records. She also orders a series of lab tests, including bloodwork, to assess your hormone levels.

If your lab tests confirm a hormone imbalance, you may be a candidate for hormone replacement therapy, and Emily will discuss all available options for treatment, including BioTe® when appropriate.

As the BioTe® pellet dissolves under the skin, it releases hormones into your bloodstream, restoring your body to balance. Between three and five months later, when the pellet has dissolved, you return to the office and have another pellet placed.

How long does it take for hormone replacement therapy to work?

The time it takes for hormone replacement therapy to work depends on your age, general health, and the severity of the imbalance. Most people experience an improvement in their symptoms within two or three weeks,* but it may take longer.

Be patient, follow Emily’s instructions, and attend each of your appointments for optimal results.
